THE GREAT LOVE FOUNDATIONA project of CDP
Love CD and the Great Love Foundation have been deeply integrated and a reflection of the work that my heart has been set toward since 1993. In that year,I was invited by my pastor to sing at churches in Jamaica. There, I visited several orphanages and saw abject poverty that set me on a course to see worship as compassion to the poor. The orphaned kids I met that year I still know and deeply love today. Many of the songs on Great Love have been written with these young men and women in mind. Teaching others songs about God’s unfailing love and acceptance can be such a powerful gift, as no one can take it away once it is etched in a heart and mind.
In 2005 I started the Great Love Foundation to aid the poor both locally in my home of Los Angeles and internationally. I named the foundation after a quote from a hero of mine, Mother Teresa, who said, “We can do no great thing alone, only small things with great love.”
I heard Tony Campolo speak about the incarnation of Christ and was so moved when he shared how Jesus didn’t come down from heaven and do miracles to express his power of personal glory. He came humbly to the earth to express his love and mercy. As we let him live and move and have his being in us, Christ in me…. that love can be expressed in worship as compassion in the spirit of Matt 25; 35-36. God, help me to love and serve the oppressed with that heart.
Great Love aspires to bring hope and encouragement to the homeless, the physically and mentally challenged, and the orphaned. Great Love funds Journeys of Hope, an organization that provides school supplies and scholarship opportunities to orphans and at-risk youth both in the US and internationally. Journeys of Hope community service outreach provides tutoring, encouragement, educational grants, and counseling. Partnering with nations to establish mentorship groups and school feeding centers are works in progress. In addition, Great Love sponsors thank-you events for the thankless work of the caregivers and directors of orphanages and group homes. Great Love also invests in making indelible memories by sponsoring field trips and holiday parties for the poor and orphaned.
The Great Love Foundation is funded by Great Love Family Partners, private individuals, hospitals, organizations, businesses, schools, churches, and para-church organizations that have a vision and a heart to bring dignity to the forgotten and marginalized of society both in the U.S. and to the nations. Great Love is a project of Congressional District Programs.
